Brief description
The Special Scholarship Program (SSP) at KUT was established in 2003 to support the university’s advanced research by bringing in highly qualified doctoral students. The university selects doctoral students for specific research projects twice a year, in April and October. The students are enrolled in an English doctoral program while also aiding their host professor with his or her research initiatives.

International Students
Scholarship value/inclusions (strictly for international students)
(1) Entrance examination charge of 30,000 yen, enrollment fee of 300,000 yen, and 535,800 yen tuition fee.
(2) For research project work, 150,000 yen per month is given to cover living expenses.
(3) A total of 150,000 yen is set aside for travel and living expenses.
(This award is only given to international applicants who are currently residing outside of Japan at the time of application.)
Eligibility
All of the following requirements must be met by applicants:
(1) Possessing or planning to obtain a master’s degree prior to the KUT enrollment deadline.
(2) At the time of enrolment, you must be 35 years old or younger.
(3) To have a high academic record and bachelor’s and master’s degrees from respected institutions.
(4) To have the desire to participate in one of the specified research projects, as well as the necessary knowledge and research skills.
(5) Possess a high level of English proficiency.
Instructions for use:
You must first choose a research project from the SSP Research Project List before completing and mailing all relevant documentation. The deadline to apply for the April and October semesters is September 30 of the previous year. Another deadline for the October semester is the 31st of March the following year.
